Men’s Tennis Picks Up Doubles Win On Day 1 Of Southern Championships

ATHENS – Mercer's tennis tandem of Nemanja Stefanovic and Marceau Fouilhoux rebounded from a tough qualifying-round loss to Georgia Tech's Gabriele Brancatelli and Richard Biaigotti with an 8-6 victory in the afternoon consolation round to highlight the day for the Bears on Friday afternoon at the Georgia-hosted Southern Intercollegiate.

Fouilhoux and Samuel MacLeod both fell on the wrong end of 3-set singles bouts on Friday morning, while Stefanovic and Lucas Dini both dropped their singles draw in straight sets. Fouilhoux grabbed the opening set of his tilt with Georgia's Davis Taylor, but the UGA newcomer fought back with a 6-4 win in the second set, and then closed out the match with a 6-2 win in the deciding set.

MacLeod evened up his match with Georgia Tech's Rohan Sachdev by toughing out a 7-5 win in the second set, but the Yellowjackets junior closed it out with a tight 7-5 win in the third set.

The Orange & Black will continue play at the Magill Tennis Complex on Saturday. The second day of the 3-day event will open with doubles play at 9 a.m., followed by singles action at approximately 1 p.m.
