MacLeod, Stefanovic Split On Day 2 Of Southern Championships

ATHENS – Nemanja Stefanovic delivered a straight-sets win over UNC Wilmington's Gabe Hurtado, while Samuel MacLeod fought back from an opening-set loss to oust third-seeded Maxwell Weir of Georgia State, to highlight action for the Mercer men's tennis team on second-day action at the Georgia-hosted Southern Intercollegiate Championships on Saturday.

Stefanovic dropped a tough 6-4, 7-5 tilt to Clemson's Marko Mesarovic in his Saturday opener, but managed to forge the Day 2 split with a convincing 6-1, 6-4 win over Hurtado. MacLeod split his Saturday draws as well, toppling Weir by 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 scores, before succumbing to second-seeded Stewart Aronson of Clemson in straight sets (6-1, 6-4).

The Bears will close out their stay at the 3-day event on Sunday. Doubles play will get underway at 9 a.m., with singles play set to follow at 10:30 a.m.
