Moorman scored her ninth goal of season for Bears
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's soccer team and UNCG exchanged goals in the first half in a 1-1 draw Sunday afternoon at Betts Stadium.
UNCG scored first in the 10th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
The Bears responded in the 18th minute when Ciara Whitely found Jada Moorman at the top of the box on the right side. Moorman's shot went to the top right corner and grazed the post and went in to level the game at one. It was Moorman's conference leading ninth goal of the season.
Mercer almost took the lead before half when Kendall Cook sent a ball in to the box and Thomason's header was saved by a diving Emma Malone from UNCG.
In the second half, each team created a few chances but each team was solid defensively and prevented any quality goal scoring chances.
However, in the 90th minute, with 12 seconds to play, UNCG was called for a back-pass as the Spartan goalie picked up the ball directly from a pass from a teammate. Cook's shot on the free kick from inside the box was blocked and the two teams had to settle for a point a piece.
Shots were 12-11 in favor of UNCG and each team had five shots on goal in the game.
Mercer's next game is Thursday at home against Wofford. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
