Matches Will Be Played Off Campus At Randy Stephens Tennis Center
MACON – The Mercer men's and women's tennis teams will open the home portions of their 2023-24 schedules on Sunday when the Bears suit up to take on Abraham Baldwin at the Randy Stephens Tennis Center in southern Bibb County. Admission to all 2023-24 MU home tennis matches is free.
Fans unable to make the trip to Middle Georgia can still follow the matchups for free via a live statistics link courtesy of the Mercer athletics department. Live coverage links for all MU athletic events can be accessed by visiting MercerBears.com/Live.
Sunday's regularly-scheduled morning matchup with Emmanuel has been canceled. Neither match will be made up.
Sunday's contest with the Golden Stallions will mark the first action of the spring for the women's team who will compete for the first time since closing out its fall schedule in mid-November. Senior Teodora Ristic recorded a team-best eight singles victories during the fall campaign, while sophomore Marina de Diego Quinones tallied seven wins in singles action. MU's tandems of freshman Tea Zivic and de Diego Quinones, as well as Ristic and graduate transfer Lea Falentin, both posted six wins in fall doubles action.
The men's squad will be seeking its first dual triumph of the season after dropping a pair of matches in both Tallahassee, Fla., and Miami, Fla., over the last two weekends. Sophomore Nemanja Stefanovic is responsible for MU's lone team point through the early part of the campaign after ousting Jacksonville State's Vanja Dobrnjac in straight sets on January 16 in Tallahassee. Stefanovic has played on court No. 1 for the Bears in all four dual matchups so far this season.
Following Sunday's off-campus matches, the men's team will return to action again on Wednesday against in-state nemesis Georgia Southern at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center on campus. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. The women's team is slated to make a swing through north Florida next weekend, beginning with a Friday morning contest at Bethune-Cookman.
