MACON – The Mercer men's tennis team will put the wraps on a short two-match home stand on Wednesday when the Bears suit up in the Orange & Black to battle in-state nemesis Georgia Southern at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. and admission is free.
Fans unable to make the trip to Middle Georgia can still follow the match in progress for free via a live statistics link provided by the Mercer athletics department.
Mercer (1-4) is fresh off a sweep of Abraham Baldwin on Sunday at the Randy Stephens Tennis Center that saw the hosts register straight-sets across the board. The Stallions, who toted a No. 4 national ranking in the latest International Tennis Association (ITA) junior college rankings, mustered just 26 games across the six singles matches, while triumphing in just seven game in the three doubles matchups.
Canadian Nemanja Stefanovic will lead the way for the Bears having captured a team-best two singles wins so far this season, as well as a convincing doubles win alongside No. 1 doubles partner Lucas Dini against ABAC on Sunday. Dini has registered a 1-2 clip in the No. 2 singles position as well.
The Eagles (0-4) are fresh off of a 6-1 neutral site setback to 18th-ranked Texas A&M in Atlanta on Thursday. The Eagles took the Aggies the full three sets in four of the six singles matches, while Pol del Castillo put the Eagles on the board with a straight-sets victory on court No. 2. Pierre Mouesca, Judson Blair and del Castillo both boast one singles victory apiece through four dual contests.
Georgia Southern leads the all-time series with the Bears, 27-5, including a 12-2 mark against Mercer in Macon. The Eagles will ride a four-match series win streak into Wednesday's matchup.
