Väistö Cards A 68; Bears Move Up To Fifth At The Ally

Emilia Väistö shot a 68 (-4) on Tuesday
WEST POINT, Miss. - Emilia Väistö carded a bogey-free second round of 4-under, 68 and the Mercer women's golf moved up to fifth place in the 16 team field after two rounds at The Ally from Old Waverly Golf Club.
As a team, the Bears had a solid day on Tuesday, with a 2-over, 290 and are in fifth place at 12-over, 588 heading into the final round on Wednesday. Florida and Mississippi State are tied for first on the leaderboard at 9-under, 567. Four golfers for the Bears are in the top 25 entering the final round on Wednesday.
Tuesday's round was an eight shot improvement from the first round for Mercer. Mercer's round of 2-over, 290 was tied for the fourh lowest round out of the 16 teams on the day.
After shooting a 5-over, 77 in her first round, Väistö bounced back in a big way on Tuesday with a nine shot improvement, moving up more than 25 spots on the leaderboard as she enters the final round in 22nd place out of 90 golfers competing. Väistö has been playing very well on the par 3's this tournament as she is 2-under on them which is tied for second best in the field.
Katie Scheck and Analiese Raath each carded second rounds of 72 (E). For Raath it was her second consecutive round of even par and is in a tie for 17th heading into Wednesday. Scheck's eight birdies through 36 holes are the most on the team for Mercer and she is tied for the ninth most birdies in the field.
Mercer continued its stellar play on the par 3's on Tuesday as the Bears are 1-over on them for the tournament which is tied for the second best score in the field.
Eujin Pyon will be the first golfer off the tee for Mercer on Wednesday's final round at 10:15 a.m. ET / 9:15 a.m. CT.
