Bears Defeat Mocs To Pick Up Third Straight Conference Sweep

CHATTANOOGA - The Mercer volleyball team picks up their third straight conference sweep after dominating Chattanooga in a Friday night road victory. The Bears move to 19-4 on the season with a conference record of 9-1, remaining in first place.

Skyler Bumpers and Skye Ekes ran the show tonight on the front line combining for a total of 27 kills on the match with 15 and 12, respectively. Brooke Phillips added to her impressive service ace count with three and also picked up 33 assists and five kills. MeMe Davis registered 20 digs with a .923 reception percentage in the victory.

The Bears continue their Tennessee travels tomorrow for a match in Johnson City, Tenn. against the Buccaneers of ETSU. First serve will come at 4 p.m. in J. Madison Brooks Stadium and will be streamed on ESPN+.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-21	Mercer was able to gain the advantage early in the set following a kill from Lou Johnson to put the Bears up 3-1. After a few points exchanged back and forth between the two squads, Mercer was able to pull away after a Skye Ekes kill at the 20-16 mark, putting the ball in the hands of Brooke Phillips behind the service line to close out the set.
SET 2 I 26-24	The Bears lost their momentum from set one early on in set two and fell behind the Mocs 14-7. A four-point service run from Skye Ekes put the Bears back within four points at the 15-11 mark and came back to take the lead 20-19 after two Ekes kills. The Mocs battled back but Mercer dialed in and picked up the set win following a Bumpers kill.
SET 3 I 25-12	Mercer took advantage of the 2-0 lead over the Mocs and completely dominated in the third set shutting down the Mocs early on. Multiple service runs from Davis, Phillips and Padilla extended the lead setting up a statement kill from Bumpers to pick up another conference sweep.
