SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's game between Mercer and UNCG will be the 24th all-time meeting between the two programs. Mercer leads the series 18-5. The Bears are 10-1 in games played in Greensboro.
SCOUTING UNCG
UNCG went 16-14 and 9-5 in conference play last season. The two teams met in the SoCon Tournament quarterfinals where UNCG defeated Mercer 63-59 in overtime. Mercer defeated the Spartans earlier this season in Macon, 76-52.
Stacie Jones scored a career high 25 points to pace the Bears offensively. The Spartans were picked to finish sixth out of eight teams Southern Conference (SoCon) preseason coaches poll.
Like Mercer, UNCG enters the game with a 5-5 record in conference play. The Spartans are coming off a 52-44 home win over Samford on Thursday.
Over its 10 conference games, UNCG ranks sixth in scoring offense and scoring defense in the SoCon. The Spartans are shooting the ball at 39.1 percent in SoCon play, fifth best in the conference. UNCG statistically ranks last in the SoCon in three-point percentage as the Spartans are making just 22.4 percent of their threes in conference play.
UNCG is a strong rebounding team as only Mercer has a better rebounding margin in conference play than the Spartans who are outrebounding their opponents by 2.2 rebounds per game.
UNCG has the conference's fifth leading scorer in Jayde Gamble who is averaging 13.1 points per game. Ayanna Khalfani also averages double figures with 10.6 points per game.
LAST TIME OUT
Behind a balanced offensive attack and an efficient night shooting the ball, the Bears earned their way to a 76-62 victory over the Western Carolina Catamounts on the road Thursday in Ingles Court.
The Bears had four players score in double figures, led by Summah Evans, who had 19 points. Deja Williams tacked on 13 points and three steals, Mackenzie Johnson chipped in as well with 13 points and Stacie Jones had 10 points to go with four rebounds.
