Bears play Florida Gulf Coast Saturday and Florida A&M Sunday
MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's tennis team is back in action after its Clemson match getting postponed from last week as the Bears host Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday at 10 a.m. followed by Florida A&M Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center and admission is free.
Â
Mercer (3-3) hopes to be closer to full strength after missing a couple of regular starters in the lineup to due illness last time out against Georgia Southern. The Bears will look to grab their first ever win against Florida Gulf Coast who has won all nine meetings between the two programs. FGCU won 6-1 last season in Fort Myers, Florida.
FGCU enters Saturday's match 4-4 overall and 2-0 in ASUN play. They are coming off midweek away wins over conference foes Bellarmine and Queens. FGCU's Isabella Colmenares has won each of her last five singles matches.
Florida A&M is currently 4-5 on the season. Mercer leads the all-time series between the two programs 9-1. The two teams met last spring in Tallahassee, Florida where Mercer won, 5-2.
The Rattlers have won each of their last three matches in convincing fashion against the likes of Mississippi Valley State (5-0), Alcorn State (4-0), and Grambling State (4-0). Florida A&M has faired better at doubles than singles matches so far this year including having one undefeated doubles team in Susan Salinas and Veronica Rodriguez who are 3-0.
