
Mercer Grabs First Win Over Florida Gulf Coast In Program History

MACON - The Mercer women's tennis program defeated Florida Gulf Coast 5-2 on Saturday afternoon from the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center in Macon.
The win for the Bears snapped FCGU's four match unbeaten streak. It also marked Mercer's first win over Florida Gulf Coast in program history.
Despite dropping the first doubles match of the day, Mercer won the next two doubles matches to earn the doubles point. FGCU's Jordana Ossa and Paloma Goldsmith defeated Mercer's Lea Falentin and Emilia Cosatto, 6-1.
FGCU won the first singles match as Isabella Colmenares gained the Eagles' first point by defeating de Diego Quinones 6-1, 6-0.
The Bears then took control and never looked back, winning the next four matches on courts No. 1, 5, 3, and 4. Teodora Ristic defeated FGCU's Fanny Norin 6-2, 6-1 to start things off for the Bears.
Emilia Cosatto followed by winning her singles match 6-3, 6-2 over FGCU's Ida Ferdig. On court three, Lea Falentin defeated FGCU's Paloma Goldsmith, 6-2, 6-3 to clinch the win for the Bears. Mariella Minetti won 6-3, 6-4 on court four over FGCU's Jordana Ossa.
FGCU's Amelia Kopel won a close match against Mercer's Tea Zivic, 7-6 (6), 6-3 to close out the day.
The Bears will return to the courts tomorrow to play Florida A&M. The match begins at 1 p.m.
