
Mercer Falls In Close Match At Stetson, 4-2

DELAND, Fla. - The Mercer women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season in a tightly contested match at Stetson that saw the Hatter defeat the Bears 4-2 on Saturday at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
The Bears won two of three doubles matches and Stetson took four of five singles matches with one match unfinished. In doubles action, the Bears rallied from 5-4 down in two matches to come back and win each match, 7-5.
Mercer's Teodora Ristic and Marina de Diego Quinones defeated Stetson's Zali Morris and Alanna DiFrancesco, 7-5 after trailing 5-4 in their match. On court three, Mercer's Mariella Minetti and Tea Zivic also faced match point at 5-4 against Stetson's Magdalena Hezrak and Elicia Kim, but rallied to take the match 7-5.Â
Stetson's Cheri Darley and Noa Cohen earned the first point of the day for Stetson, defeating Mercer's Lea Falentin and Emilia Cosatto, 6-1.
Three of the five singles matches went three sets. Mercer's lone singles win on the day came from de Diego Quinones who defeated Stetson's Zali Morris, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Ristic dropped her singles match to Stetson's Cheri Darley, 6-0, 3-6, 6-2. Stetson's Alanna DiFrancesco defeated Minetti, 6-3, 6-1.
Court four saw the most competitive singles match of the day as Stetson's Elicia Kim defeated Mercer's Lea Falentin, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4. Mercer's Tea Zivic dropped her first singles match of the season against Stetson's Magdalena Hezrak, 6-1, 6-4.Â
Cosatto and Stetson's Noa Cohen had a close match going on court five before the match was called in the fifth set with Cosatto one game away from the win at 6-4, 3-5, 5-4.
Up next for Mercer is a trip to New York to play at Army in West Point, New York on Saturday, February 10. The following day the Bears will play Georgetown also in West Point.
