Jones Finishes 2nd In 5000m Run At 49er Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sophomore Olivia Jones topped her previous personal-best time by more than 15 seconds on the way to registering a runner-up finish in the 5000m Run Open, while two of her teammates clocked personal best times in the 5000m Run Invite, to highlight action for the Mercer track & field team on opening-day action at the Charlotte-hosted 49er Classic.

Jones was less than seven seconds off of the pace of event winner Froukje Mons of Converse, but still managed to top 35 other competitors in the event. Senior Patrycja Miazek and junior Annette Rodriguez-Olvera both eclipsed their previous personal-best times in the Invite portion of the 5000m Run. Miazek crossed in eighth place in that event, while Rodriguez-Olvera was 22^nd.

MU's distance runners will continue action at the 49er Classic on Saturday. Mercer's sprinters and jumpers will also be in action in nearby Atlanta as part of the Georgia Tech-hosted Yellow Jacket Invite.
