Bears Fall In Non-Conference Finale With Georgia Southern
4/17/2024 8:59:00 PM | Softball
MACON – Visiting Georgia Southern broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the fifth inning and held off a pair of last-gasp rallies by Mercer to fuel a 4-1 victory over the Bears on Wednesday evening at Sikes Field.
Â
The setback snapped the lid on the non-conference portion of the regular season schedule for the Bears (19-22) who will open up a six-game road trip on Saturday at Southern Conference rival Chattanooga. It was the second win in the last three outings for the Eagles (22-18) who completed a season sweep of the Orange & Black with Wednesday's decision as well.
Â
Starter Hannah Pitts (4-7) struck out two and scattered six hits across her eighth complete game of the campaign, but saddled the loss after also yielding four earned runs. Senior Alyssa Woods (2-for-3, BB, RBI) and junior Laura Vigna (2-for-2, SAC) led the way offensively for the hosts.
