MACON – A testament to their work ethic both on the field and in the classroom, five Mercer softball student-athletes – seniors Alyssa Woods and Kassidy Moore, juniors Emma Dorval and Laura Vigna and redshirt sophomore Hannah Pitts – were all named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team on Tuesday.
Â
The 2023-24 Academic All-District® Softball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Â
To be eligible for the Academic All-District® and Academic All-America® award, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically and maintain a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA. They must also demonstrate their commitment to their sport, competing in 90 percent of the institution's games played or starting in at least 66 percent of the games. Pitchers need 17 appearances or 25 innings pitched.
Â
Woods and Dorval, who both hauled in All-Southern Conference honors in early May as well, will now advance to the Academic All-America® ballot to be voted on by CSC members. All five student-athletes maintain(ed) a 3.626 grade point average or better, including Dorval who boasts a 4.0 GPA as an accounting major at Mercer.
Â
Moore (biology) and Woods (kinesiology) both earned their bachelor's degrees from MU earlier this month.
