
Volleyball Hosts MU Invitational

MACON - After a big win on the road against Kennesaw State on Tuesday, the Mercer volleyball team will host Presbyterian, Elon and Southern Miss. this weekend for the MU Invitational.Â
On Sept. 10 the Bears traveled to Kennesaw, Ga. for a match against the Owls and came away with a 3-1 win, advancing their record to 6-1 on the season. Mercer is off to the best start in program history and have won 18/22 out of their last regular season matches dating back to the 2023 season. The Bears look to continue their hot-streak this weekend as they return back to Hawkins Arena for three matches.
Mercer's first match of the weekend will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday and they will face off against Elon. The Phoenix got off to a rough start on the 2024 season losing their first three matches during opening weekend at Davidson College. They were quickly able to even out their record to 4-4 with wins over Gardner-Webb, North Carolina Central, UNC Greensboro and Norfolk State. The Bears return to the court later that same day at 7:00 p.m. against Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles will also enter the weekend with an even record at 3-3 on the season. Southern Miss hosted a tournament during their opening weekend going 3-0 on the weekend but have lost their last three matches.
To close out the weekend the Bears will face Presbyterian on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The Blue Hose currently sits at 2-5 on the season with wins over Delaware State and Temple.Â
Multiple players continue to be key components in the success of the team for Mercer but specific Bears to look for throughout the weekend are senior outside hitter Skye Ekes who currently leads the team in kills with 94 and freshman libero MeMe Davis who has a team-high 109 digs. Senior setter Brooke Phillips is the NCAA leader in services aces with 24 and has tallied 228 assists throughout seven matches.Â
