
Bears With Two in Top 15 After First Round At Cardinal Cup

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. - After a weather delay pushed tee times back two hours, Ella Mäki-Tanila and Emilia Väistö each carded first rounds of 1-over, 73 on Friday at the Cardinal Cup from Louisville Golf Club. Mäki-Tanila and Väistö are tied for 11th in the 84-player field after the first of three rounds.
As a team, Mercer had a round of 13-over, 301 and is in seventh place out of the 15 teams competing in the tournament. Rutgers leads the field after the first 18-holes at 3-over, 291.
The Bears played the par 4's better than any other team on Friday. Mercer was 5-over par on the par 4's and was one of just three teams to play the par 4's, 9-over par or better. Mercer's 62 pars on the day were second most in the field, led by Väistö's 15 pars.
The second round for Mercer will begin at 9 a.m. with Analiese Raath teeing off from the first hole.
