
Väistö Tied For 10th After First Round At Golfweek Red Sky Classic

WOLCOTT, Co. - A first round of 2-under, 70 from freshman Emilia Väistö has her tied for 10th place after the first round of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic from Red Sky Ranch Golf Club in Wolcott, Colorado.
As a team, Mercer had a round of 9-over, 297 and is in tenth place out of the 16 teams competing in the tournament. Only two teams carded rounds in red numbers as Sacramento State leads the field after the first 18-holes at 7-under, 281.
Väistö had six birdies in her round, including a stretch of three straight birdies on holes 13, 14, and 15. Her six birdies on her round were tied for the most in the 87 player field. She enters Tuesday's second round five shots back of the current leader, Caitlin Maurice of Sacramento State who is at 7-under par and has a three stroke lead on those in second place at 4-under.
Mikayla Dubnik had an eagle on the par 4, third - one of just five golfers on the day to card an eagle. Ella Mäki-Tanila was one of the best golfers on the par 3's on Monday as she went 2-under par on the par 3's which was tied for the second bast score in the field.
The second round for Mercer will begin at 10 a.m. with Analiese Raath teeing off from the 10th hole.
