Bears Tied For 8th After Second Round At Golfweek Red Sky Classic

Bears Tied for 8th place in 16 team field
WOLCOTT, Co. - Ella Mäki-Tanila and Emilia Väistö each carded second rounds of 72 (E) on Tuesday to help the Bears move up two spots on the leaderboard and into a tie for 8th place after the second round of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic from Red Sky Ranch Golf Club in Wolcott, Colorado.
As a team, Mercer had a second round of 6-over, 294, three shots better than their round of 297 on Monday to move into a tie for 8th place at 15-over, 591Â out of the 16Â teams competing in the tournament. Kansas had the low round of the day on Tuesday with an 11-under, 277 which put the Jayhawks as the leaders going into the final round on Wednesday at 11-under, 565 for the tournament.
Väistö's round of 72, came after carding a 2-under, 70 in her first round on Monday. She sits in a tie for 12th place heading into the final 18 holes. Her 10 birdies through her first two rounds leads Mercer and is tied for the sixth most birdies among the 86 golfers competing.
Mäki-Tanila's round of 72 moved her up eight spots on the leaderboard and into a tie for 26th. She continues to play well the par 3's as she went even par on them on Tuesday. She is playing them at 2-under par for the tournament which is tied for the best score on par 3's among all golfers in the field. The Bears as a team have been playing well on the par 3's as they are 5-over on them which is tied for the third best score among the 16 teams.
The final round on Wednesday will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m. MT.
