BOCA RATON, Fla. – Hot-handed Mercer posted wins in four of the first six singles matchups, and then turned over three of the four afternoon doubles matchups, to help the Bears plow through Army on Day 2 action of the Florida Atlantic Hidden Dual Tournament on Saturday in South Florida.
Â
The 3-day event in South Florida is being conducted in a "hidden duals" format which consists of a series of head-to-head matches between two teams. While the individual results of all completed matches are official, there is no team score recorded.
Â
Nemanja Stefanovic, Hod'Abalo Isak Padio and Amen Prince Gandonou each picked up singles victories for the second-straight day, while newcomers Shingo Masuda and Esteban Davila Gasser both notched their first spring wins of the season to highlight a dominant Saturday morning for the Orange & Black. Masuda dropped a tough first set to Army's Michael Zhang by a 6-3 count, but rebounded with 7-5 and 6-3 triumphs in the second and third sets, respectively.
Â
The 55th-ranked tandem of Stefanovic and senior Marceau Fouilhoux kept their doubles train rolling with a 6-3 win over Army's Alan Ton and Matias Feoli, while Padio/Gandonou registered a 6-3 victory on Court No. 2 over Jack Hanna and Vishnu Bodavula.
Â
Valdosta native Howell Burns teamed up with Gasser to register a 6-3 victory over Zhang and Davis McDonald as well.
