MACON – The Mercer men's tennis team will lift the lid on the spring portion of its 2024-25 schedule this weekend when the Bears pack up their show and head to South Florida for the Florida Atlantic Hidden Dual Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla.
Â
The Orange & Black is scheduled for a full weekend of action that begins on Friday at 9 a.m. when it tangles with Big 10 foe Wisconsin in singles action at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center. Mercer is also slated to battle Florida Atlantic in doubles play on Friday afternoon.
Â
Saturday's slate has Mercer battling Army in both singles and doubles play beginning at 9 a.m., while the Bears will wrap up their stay in the Sunshine State on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. when they take on the host Owls in singles play at 11:30 a.m.
Â
The event will be a "hidden duals" format which consists of a series of head-to-head matches between two teams. While the individual results of all completed matches are official, there is no team score recorded.
Â
The Orange & Black is coming off a very productive fall campaign in which they combined for 46 singles victories and 28 doubles wins. Newcomer Hod'Abalo Isak Padio began his Mercer career with five-straight singles victories on the way to a team-best 9-4 clip, and then paired with junior college teammate and fellow MU newcomer Amen Prince Gandonou to register a 10-3 record on the doubles courts.
Â
MU's duo of senior Marceau Fouilhoux and junior Nemanja Stefanovic, who will enter the spring campaign with a No. 55 national ranking, was equally as impressive, compiling a 7-3 clip that included a trio of triumphs at the Samford Invitational in late September.
