Mercer Drops Match On Road To Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Mercer women's tennis team dropped its match on the road to Charlotte, 7-0 Thursday morning in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The morning got started with doubles matches where Charlotte's Shona Nakono and Ni Xi defeated Mercer's Ines Hömberg and Kennedi Jones, 6-1. The 49ers earned the doubles point after Prisca Abbas and Lucia Aranda of Charlotte defeated Mercer's Dhastina Mikhnova and Marie Bannmeyer, 6-2.
The match on court one went unfinished with Mercer's Marina de Diego Quinones and Tea Zivic leading 4-3 over Charlotte's Amira Badawi and Sara Suchankova.
In singles play, Charlotte's Prisca Abbas defeated Jelena Gojkovic, 6-0, 6-4. Then, Paula Dougherty of Charlotte defeated Ines Hömberg, 6-1, 6-3 to give Charlotte a 3-0 lead.
Charlotte clinched the match on court one when Sara Suchankova defeated Marina de Diego Quinones, 6-2, 6-3. Shona Nakona of Charlotte won a close first set on her way to defeating Mercer's Marie Bannmeyer 6-4, 6-2.
On court two, Charlotte's Lucia Aranda defeated Dzhastina Mikhnova, 6-4, 6-2. The last singles match went to Charlotte's Amira Badawi who won by injury default over Tea Zivic with Badawi leading 1-0 in the third set.Â
Mercer returns home for a quick upcoming match against College of Charleston on Saturday, Feb. 1. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
