Mercer Drops Tight Match To College of Charleston

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's tennis team dropped a close match at home to College of Charleston, 4-3 Saturday afternoon from LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
The morning got started with doubles matches which were all competitve, but the Bears ended up winning two out of the three matches to earn the doubles point. First, Emilia Cosatto and Ines Hömberg defeted College of Charleston's McKenzie Daniel and Isabella De Luise, 6-4.
On court two, Mercer clinched the doubles point as Dzhastina Mikhnova and Marie Bannmeyer defeated College of Charleston's Francesca Salvato and Sia Cariov, 6-4. The Cougars managed to win the doubles match on court one as Jaiden McKee and Maja Jekauc defeated Mercer's Marina de Diego Quinones and Tea Zivic, 6-3.
College of Charleston tied the score at one after the first singles match concluded after Francesca Salvato defeated de Diego Quinones 6-3, 6-3. On court four, Oziera Ahmad defeated Tea Zivic, 6-4, 6-2.
The Cougars took a 3-1 lead after a three-set match on court three that went to College of Charleston's Jaiden McKee, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 over Dzhastina Mikhnova. Marie Bannmeyer kept Mercer alive after she won in three sets over College of Charleston's Sia Cariov, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
Maja Jekauc was able to clinch the match for the Cougars on court one as she defeated Emilia Cosatto, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Mercer won the last match of the day on court six as Jelena Gojkovic defeated Isabella De Luise, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Mercer returns home in one week on Feb. 8 as Troy visits Macon. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
