Bears Set To Open 2025 Season At Hampton

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer men's lacrosse team will travel to Hampton for their first regular season game of the 2025 season on Saturday at noon. Saturday's contest is the opening game of the 2025 NCAA Division I men's lacrosse season.

SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's game will be the fourth meeting between these two programs with Mercer coming away with a win in all three contests. The last time these two squads met was Mercer's 2024 home opener on Feb. 4, resulting in the Bears taking a 20-5 win over the Pirates. Christian Laureano and Dylan McKelvy led the offensive charge with three goals a piece.
LAST SEASON
Head coach Ryan Danehy finished his second season at Mercer with an overall record of 4-10 and a 3-6 record in the ASUN conference. The Bears closed the 2024 season with a 13-11 win over Lindenwood at Five Star Stadium.
Sophomore attack Dillon Bush looks to build off of his standout freshman campaign after registering 14 goals for the Orange & Black and being named to the ASUN All-Freshman Team. The Bears also return a stellar midfielder in junior Michael Frederick who recorded eight goals, eight assists and 12 ground balls during his sophomore season. Defensemen Davis Peek (12 ground balls and nine caused turnovers) and Quinn Kelley (32 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers) also return for another year with the Bears.
SCOUTING HAMPTON
The Pirates are led by Chazz Woodson who enters his fifth season at the helm for Hampton. The Pirates finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 0-13 and an 0-7 record in the CAA conference. Their final game last season was against Fairfield on April 27, resulting in an 8-18 loss for Hampton in the regular season finale.
The Pirates return their leading goal scorer in junior Darius Stanley who posted 10 goals, two assists and 14 ground balls for Hampton last season. The Pirates enter the 2025 season as a young squad with 21 freshmen on the roster.
