After a two-week hiatus, the Mercer Bears are back in action for their final competition of the fall season. Mercer last competed in the inaugural Bryan Bros Collegiate on September 28-29.
The Bears had a busy September, participating in three tournaments. Mercer opened its fall slate with the Golfweek Fall Challenge on September 7. The Bears then traveled to Miramar Beach to compete in the Sandestin Collegiate Classic before the competition in Columbia, South Carolina.
"It was nice to be able to have a little break to rest and recharge over the last two weeks," said head coach Jason Payne. "We had a lot of qualifying and internal competition that really pushed ourselves. We also had the opportunity to look closely at our statistics and the analytics to help fine tune some areas of our game."
Henry Robards leads the way for the Bears with a 71.4 scoring average on the season. The sophomore from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, tied his career-low of 66 in the second round of the Sandestin Collegiate Classic.
Cole Hanson and Phillips Swift are tied with the second-best stroke average on the season at 71.7. Swift, a Macon native, finished fourth individually at the Sandestin with a career-best eight-under-par.
"The final tournament of the fall comes with a mix of emotions," Payne said. "We are not ready for the fall season to end, but we are excited to see how this lineup competes in the final event of the fall. This is the same lineup that found success in the Sandestin, and I believe they are due for some low rounds."
