Scheck In Top 10, Bears In Sixth After First Round In Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Katie Scheck carded a first round of 1-under, 70 and is tied for ninth after the first round of the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate from Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tennessee.

As a team, the Bears are in sixth place out of 15 teams at 4-over, 288. Tennessee leads the field at 4-under, 280. They have a 3-shot lead over Oregon State after 18 holes.

Scheck's round of 1-under, 70 consisted of five birdies including three straight on holes 15, 16, and 17 to finish with a round under par. She is three shots back of current leader Anna Behnsen of South Alabama who is 4-under par to lead the 78-player field.

Tylar Whiting and Ella Mäki-Tanila each had solid rounds of 1-over, 72 and are tied for 21st.

The second round will begin Monday morning at 10:20 a.m. with Mahima Vurupatur the first Bear to tee off.
