Drijvers’ Rainmaker Pushes Bears Past West Georgia
2/12/2025 8:08:00 PM | Softball
MACON – Visiting West Georgia took advantage of three errors to grab a 3-1 advantage in the top of the fourth inning, but Mercer rallied for a trio of unanswered runs, including a 2-run rainmaker off of the bat of Sietske Drijvers in the bottom of the fifth, to register a 4-3 win over the Wolves in a weather-shortened game at Sikes Field.
It was the third win in the last four outings for the Bears (3-2) who drew eight walks in the contest, including four in the first inning alone. The decision marked the second-straight setback for West Georgia (3-2) who reeled off a 3-1 record over the weekend at the Gardner-Webb-hosted Runnin' Bulldogs Invitational.

KEY INNINGS | |
TOP 4 | Kristen Fowler doubled to lead off the frame for the Wolves and used a groundout three pitches later to set up camp 60 feet away. Gabby Ellis got a 4-pitch strikeout to settle the nerves, but Megan Waites legged out an infield single moments later to plate Fowler from third with the 4-1 advantage. |
BOT 4 | Laura Vigna's triple off of the right field wall got things going again for the Bears who cut into their deficit two batters later thanks to a sacrifice fly from freshman Grace Jones. |
BOT 5 | Rookie KiKi Daniels doubled to lead off the bottom of the fifth, and Sietske Drijvers followed with a 241-foot bomb to straightaway center to give MU its second lead of the game. That homer signaled the intensifying of a local rain storm and, after Mercer loaded the bases with its next three at-bats, the game was called. |
