
Mercer Holds Off The Citadel In 62-52 Win

Overstreet and Shoulders each finished with a double-double
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Behind a pair of double-doubles from Marcus Overstreet and Brady Shoulders, Mercer snapped a 5-game losing skid with a 62-52 win over The Citadel Wednesday night from McAlister Arena in Charleston, South Crolina.
The Bears were great defensively in holding The Citadel to 52 points on 17-for-60 (28.3%) shooting, including 5-for-26 (19.2%) from three-point range. Mercer also controlled the paint as points in the paint were 36-22, in favor of the Bears and Mercer outrebounded the Bulldogs, 46-37.
Overstreet had 13 points and a team high 13 rebounds and Shoulders had 10 points and 12 rebounds. Ahmad Robinson led Mercer in scoring with 21 points to go with seven assists, five rebounds and two steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
It was The Citadel who got out to a fast start as the Bulldogs took an early 16-6 lead after a layup from Brody Fox who finished with a game high 23 points. Mercer then went on a 9-0 run with Robinson scoring seven of the nine ponts to make it a 16-15 lead for The Citadel.
A layup from Shoulders brought Mercer within two at 22-20 with five minutes to go in the first half. A three-pointer from Tyler Johnson gave the Bears their first lead of the game at 27-24 with two minutes left in the first half. Mercer would take a 29-25 lead into halftime.
2ND HALF
Johnson followed his second three-pointer of the game with a turnaround jumper to give Mercer a 36-30 lead early in the second half. The Citadel took its first lead of the second half at 41-40 with more than 11 minutes to go in the game.
Mercer would then go on a 10-2 run with Shoulders scoring the final four points of the run for the Bears to give Mercer a 50-43 lead. A layup from Robinson gave Mercer a 53-45 lead with more than five minutes to play. The Citadel cut Mercer's lead to four at 55-51 with more than three minutes to play. However, Mercer buttoned up defensively down the stretch by allowing just one point over the last three and a half minutes of action to close out the 62-52 win.
