Mercer Uses Late Homer To Rattle Georgia Southern
2/26/2025 9:26:00 PM | Softball
MACON – Starter Katheryn Rearley and reliever Hannah Pitts delivered a 1-2 punch from the circle, and Sietske Drijvers delivered the knockout strike on a go-ahead homer with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning, to give the Bears a 4-2 win over visiting Georgia Southern on Wednesday evening at Sikes Field.
The result snapped a two-game series skid for the Bears (8-6) who nabbed their first win over the Eagles since a 5-1 triumph in Statesboro on April 19, 2023. It was just the second loss in the last eight series matchups for Georgia Southern (8-6) who had their four-game win streak snapped in the process as well.
Rearley was solid from the circle for the Orange & Black, striking out two and yielding just a pair of runs in 5-1/3 innings pitched before giving way to Pitts with one out in the sixth. Pitts (2-2) delivered with 1-2/3 innings of hitless relief. She also struck out two batters.
