Mercer Falls To Saint Joseph’s In Season Opener

MACON – Visiting Saint Joseph's broke open a scoreless game with two runs in the top of the 6^th inning and rode Taylor Trowbridge's 2-hit shutout to a 2-0 victory over Mercer in the season opener for the Bears on Friday evening at Sikes Field.

The setback snapped a two-game win streak in season openers for the Bears (0-1) who finished the night with five baserunners, but also tallied a 0-for-8 clip with runners on the base paths. It was the second win of the day for Saint Joseph's (2-0) who registered a 5-2 win over Austin Peay earlier Saturday.

KEY INNINGS
TOP 6	Saint Joseph's led off the frame with a walk and a single, then used a double steal and an ensuing error by the Bears to break the deadlock. Sierra Fretz's RBI single two batters later provided the final.

The Bears will play a pair of games at the Heart of Georgia Classic on Saturday at Sikes Field. Mercer will open its Saturday round-robin schedule with a 1:30 p.m. tilt against Florida A&M (0-1), and close out its day at 4 p.m. against Austin Peay (1-1).
