
Mercer Outlasted By Wofford At Home, 77-66

Ahmad Robinson led Mercer with 16 points
MACON, Ga. – Ahmad Robinson led led Mercer with 16 points, but the Mercer Bears fell at home to Wofford, 77-66 Saturday afternoon from Hawkins Arena.
Both teams shot 40 percent from the field, but the Terriers shot 35.3 percent from deep, making 12 three-pointers to just five made threes for the Bears who shot 22.7 percent from behind the arc. Neither team had a decisive advantage on the glass in what was a matchup of two of the top three rebounding teams in the SoCon. Wofford had 44 rebounds to Mercer's 40.
Wofford shot it better from three-point range, but the Bears won the battle in the paint as paint points were, 34-26 in favor of the Bears.
In addition to Robinson's 16 points, Tyler Johnson finished right behind him with 15 points and five rebounds. Marcus Overstreet picked up his third double-double in his last four games with 11 points and 13 rebounds.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
Back-to-back layups from Alex Holt gave Mercer an early 9-5 lead. Then, a layup from Wofford's Corey Tripp gave Wofford a 5-point lead at 17-12 with 10 minutes still to play in the first half.
Both offenses went a little cold from the field in the middle part of the first half, but Wofford led 26-19 with just under six minutes left in the first half. The Terriers closed the half on a 9-2 run and would take a 38-27 lead into halftime.
2ND HALF
Trailing 42-30, the Bears went on a 10-0 run to make it a one-possession game at 42-40. Six of Mercer's 10 points during the run were second-chance points off offensive rebounds. However, Wofford was able to respond with an 8-0 run to go back up by double figures at 50-40.
The Terriers slowly stretched their lead to 16 points at 61-45 with nine minutes remaining. An offensive rebounds and putback from Holt got the Bears within seven at 64-57 with more than five minutes to play. However, Mercer wasn't able to get enough defensive stops down the stretch as Wofford kept Mercer from making a late run to hold on for the 77-66 win.

+ Tyler Johnson went 3-for-7 from three-point range. He has made at least three three's in five of his last six games.
