
Mercer Falls On The Road To Furman

Ahmad Robinson led Mercer with 17 points
GREENVILLE, S.C – Ahmad Robinson led led Mercer with 17 points, but the hot-shooting Furman Paladins defeated the Bears, 96-72 Wednesday night from Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina.
Mercer shot 29-of-64 (45.3%) to Furman's 31-of-63 (49.2%), but a big difference in the game was the Paladins connecting on 18-of-36 three-pointers compared to the Bears who shot 7-for-18 (41.1%) from deep.
Points in the paint were 32-20 in favor of the Bears. Neither team had much of an advantage on the glass as Furman outrebounded Mercer, 38-35.
Mercer had balanced scoring on the night with five players scoring in double figures led by Robinson who had 17 points, six rebounds and four assists. Tyler Johnosn finished right behind him with 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Brady Shoulders had 11 points, and Cam Bryant and Alex Holt each finished with 10 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
Furman got off to a fast start, making its first three, three-pointers of the game and took an early 13-2 lead. A three-pointer from Shoulders made it an 18-7 game. Furman's Nick Anderson made one of his team best six three-pointers to give the Paladins a 33-12 lead with 10 minutes to go in the first half.
Another three-pointer from Shoulders capped a quick 8-0 run by the Bears which made it a 33-20 lead for Furman. The Paladins responded with a 10-2 run to take a 43-22 lead. Johnson made a three-pointer to beat the halftime buzzer, but the Bears went into the locker room trailing, 52-35 at the break.
2ND HALF
An offensive rebound and putback from Holt made it a 60-47 lead for Furman in the opening minutes of the second half. A hookshot from Bryant in the paint got the Bears within single digits at 64-56 with more than 12 minutes to play.
A pull-up jumper from Johnson cut the deficit to seven at 71-64 with nine minutes remaining. However, Furman responded by going on a 14-2 run to go up 85-66 to all but put the game away heading into the under-four media timeout. The Paladins would go on to close out the game, 96-72
