
Bears Fall On The Road To Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. - The Mercer women's tennis team dropped its non-conference match 6-1 at Kennesaw State Tuesday afternoon from Kennesaw, Georgia.
The doubles matches were tightly contested with the Bears winning the first match 6-3 thanks to the play of Dzhastina Mikhnova and Emilia Cosatto who defeated Terezia Baraniakova and Laura Nadaska of Kennesaw State.
The other two doubles matches went to a tiebreaker. On court one, Kennesaw State's Ema Baraniakova and Sofia Madrid edged Mercer's Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömber, 7-6 (4). That meant the doubles point came down to court two where Izabelle Persson and Sophia Unger of Kennesaw State won the tiebreaker 9-7 over Jelena Gojkovic and Tea Zivic to give Kennesaw State a 1-0 lead.
In singles play, Terezia Baraniakova of Kennesaw State defeated Lea von Kozierowski, 6-2, 6-0. Kennesaw State's Ema Baraniakova defeated de Diego Quinones, 6-3, 6-1.
With the Owls one point away from clinching the match, Izabelle Persson of Kennesaw State came up with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Marie Bannmeyer to give the Owls the win.
Tea Zivic defeated Sophia Unger, 7-5, 6-2 on court three for Mercer's lone win in singles matches which made it 4-1.
The last two singles matches went three sets. First on court two, Sofia Madrid defeated Dzhastina Mikhnova, 6-3, 3-6, 10-7. Finally, on court five, Kennesaw State's Laura Nadaska defeated Jelena Gojkovic, 6-1, 6-7 (5), 10-8.
Mercer get back into SoCon action on Thursday when the Bears travel to Greensboro, North Carolina to take on UNCG at 2 p.m.
