SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Another torrid week at the plate led to additional recognition for Hallie Langford on Monday when the junior outfielder was named Southern Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced.
Â
Langford, a product of Trenton, Fla., hit .538 (7-for-13) in four starts last week, while also registering one home run, four RBI and a team-best eight runs scored. Langford also drew three walks, was hit by pitch twice and tallied a perfect 5-for-5 clip on stolen base attempts. For good measure, she also compiled a perfect fielding percentage in six total defensive chances, including an outfield assist in Sunday's rout of Samford.
Â
The everyday starter for the Bears in centerfield, Langford began her extraordinary week at the plate with a 3-for-4, 3-run performance in Wednesday's win at West Georgia, and then hit 4-for-9 (.444) in MU's road series with Samford. She capped off her weekend against the Bulldogs by scoring a trio of runs, including a 2-run homer in the seventh inning.
Â
Langford played three seasons (2021-23) at South Florida before transferring to Mercer in time for the 2024 campaign. She has played in 37 games while donning the Orange & Black while compiling a .419 batting average with 10 extra-base hits (1 HR), 13 RBI and 40 runs scored. She missed the final 48 games of the 2024 campaign with injury.
Â
The Bears are back in action again on Tuesday when they head to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech (18-12), but will return home on Saturday and Sunday for a key SoCon series against Chattanooga (21-9, 2-1). Admission to all 2025 Mercer Softball home games is free.
