ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The Mercer men's lacrosse team battled against St. Bonaventure this afternoon not trailing behind until a fourth quarter surge from the Bonnies put St. Bonaventure up by four, leaving Mercer scoreless in the last quarter with a final score of 9-5.

Dylan Mckelvy led the way for the Bears with back-to-back goals in the first quarter. Dillon Bush kept his scoring streak alive with another goal while Jack Sullivan and Kade McNeil each added a goal of their own. On the defensive side of the field, Kobe Handsor scooped up five groundballs and Quinn Kelley caused two turnovers. Between the pipes senior goalkeeper Rand Paddack recorded eight saves on the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bonnies attacked first early on in the first quarter at the 12:59 mark. Dylan McKelvy responded nearly six minutes later with his first goal of the game and then followed it up with another goal at the 3:53 mark to give the Bears the lead heading into the second quarter.
Jack Sullivan wasted no time in the second quarter, finding the back of the net at the 13:51 mark to give the Bears a two-point advantage. Shortly after Dillon Bush notched a goal of his own extending the lead 4-1. The Bonnies were finally able to find the back of the net with 2:14 left in the second quarter to make it a 4-2 score at halftime.
St. Bonaventure scored two goals within the first five minutes of the third quarter to even the score. Kade McNeil responded with a behind-the-back goal off of an assist by Michael Frederick to take back the lead.
The Bonnies tied it up before heading into the fourth quarter and found some momentum to finish out the game, scoring three goals and shutting out Mercer in the final quarter.

TOP BEARS

Dylan McKelvy recorded a season-high two goals.
Kobe Handsor's five-groundball performance is a season high.
Mikey Frederick is responsible for the lone assist on the afternoon for the Bears.

NOTABLES

Bush leads the Bears with 14 goals on the season and has scored at least one goal in all six games.
The Bonnies advance to 3-4 on the season.
