SPARTANBURG, S.C. – A pair of lockdown performances from the circle that paced Mercer to a series win over Southern Conference-leading UNC Greensboro provided additional benefits for Gabby Ellis on Monday afternoon when the sophomore right-hander was crowned Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced.

Ellis notched shutouts in each of the last two games of the weekend series with the Spartans, compiling a 2-0 record with a 0.00 ERA across 12 innings of work. She hurled a 2-hit shutout in an abbreviated 8-0 mercy rule win over the Spartans on Saturday, and followed that performance up with a 4-hit shutout in Sunday's weekend rubber game.

The Green Cove Springs, Fla., product highlighted her weekend by not allowing an extra-base hit against a squad that rolled into Macon boasting NCAA Division I's 9th-best home run total and 24th-best slugging percentage. She also faced the minimum in seven of her 12 innings of work, striking out seven, walking just one and limiting UNC Greensboro to a .158 batting average (6-for-38).

The Bears (28-23, 8-9 SoCon) will cap their regular season schedule on Saturday and Sunday when they head to Greenville, S.C., to take on SoCon rival Furman (15-33, 5-13) at Pepsi Stadium.
