
Bears Head To Birmingham For SoCon Championships

MACON – The Mercer track & field team will begin its postseason road on Monday when the Bears load the bus and trek to Birmingham, Ala., for the 2025 Southern Conference Championships at the Samford Track/Soccer Complex.

The Bears will open the two-day championships with competition in eight events on Monday beginning with the Long Jump at 11:30 a.m. The preliminary rounds of the 100- and 400-meter Hurdles, as well as the 100-, 200- and 400-meter runs, begins at high noon, while the Orange & Black will conclude Day 1 action with the 3000m Steeplechase and 10000m Run at 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.

The finals of the sprint and hurdles events will take place on Tuesday, as well as the 4x100m and 4x400m Relay events at noon and 2:30 p.m., respectively.

Ten Bears head into the championships holding top 10 marks or times this season, including senior Hiya Hastings who turned in the SoCon's third-best mark in the Long Jump this season with a school record leap of 5.90m at the UCF Knights Invite. junior Charity Obazughanmwen registered the conference's fifth-fastest time (55.96) this season at the Yellow Jacket Invitational in late March.

Both relay squads also boast top-5 times this season heading into the event.
