Scheck carded first round of 2-under, 70

MARICOPA, Ariz.. – Katie Scheck carded a 2-under, 70 and is tied for second place after Friday's first round of the National Golf Invitational (NGI) from Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona.

As a team, Mercer sits in fifth place in the 10-team field after a first round of 10-over, 298. Eastern Michigan leads the tournament after the first round at 3-over, 291.

Scheck's first round consisted of four birdies and two bogeys as she enters the second round just one shot off the lead.

Mikayla Dubnik carded a first round of 1-over, 73 and is tied for 10th. She had 13 pars on the day which was tied for most in the field.

As a team, Mercer had 13 birdies which was third most in the field. Mahima Vurupatur led the Bears with five birdies in her round.

Mercer will start the second round off hole one, with Ella Mäki-Tanila getting things started for the Bears as the first to tee off at 8:28 local time (CT).
