Case of the Blues
The Bears dropped their first road match of the season this past Thursday. After a 2-0 loss, Mercer is now 1-1-1 on the season.
Fouls and free kicks were Mercer's Achilles' heel in the contest. The Tigers found the back of the net for the first time in the 33rd minute, shortly after a free kick outside of the 18-yard box. Memphis would double its lead shortly after another free kick in the 74th minute.
Liam Corr turned in yet another fantastic performance for the Bears. Corr was all over the field and drew multiple fouls to set up Mercer in some advantageous positions. The transfer from Regis has one goal and one assist through three matches in his first season in Macon.
The Stone Wall
Although the Bears fell 2-0, Henry Hampshaw was magnificent. The Holmfirth, England, native set a new career-high of five saves at the Division I level.Â
However, this is not the first time the sophomore keeper reached this mark. During his redshirt freshman year at William Carey, Hampshaw saved five shots on October 24, 2024, against Mobile.
In his first three matches at Mercer, Hampshaw has earned his first D1 win, first D1 shutout and has 10 total saves.
Hunting the Bisons
Lipscomb enters Sunday night's contest with a 0-1-1 record. The Bisons opened their season with a 1-1 draw against Memphis before getting dominated in a 1-4 loss to USF.
Lipscomb had to play the entire second half a man down after midfielder Diego Ramirez received the first red card of his collegiate career in the 45th minute. The Bisons were out-shot 20-4.
Since 2008, Mercer is 7-4-2 in contests against Lipscomb. The two programs last met in 2023 which resulted in a 1-1 draw at Betts Stadium.
So far in 2025, Lipscomb has been outscored 5-2, out-shot 30-17, has only nine shots on goal and have yet to see a win. Ramirez and Tyler Stinnett have the only two goals for the Bisons this season while Levi Jones bolsters their sole assist.
