
Mercer Drops Game At Home To Jacksonville State, 2-0

First home loss of season for Bears
MACON, Ga. – Mercer women's soccer suffered its first home loss of the season to Jacksonville State by the final score of 2-0 Sunday afternoon from Betts Stadium.
The Gamecocks scored one goal in each half and were able to keep the Bears off the scoreboard to earn the non-conference win on the road.
Jacksoville State outshot Mercer 17-10 in the game. Payton Nutzman had three shots and Sydney Farr had two shots to lead the Bears offensively. Lindsay Bell made eight saves in goal which was the second most in a game for Bell this season.
Jackonville State scored its first goal in the 13th minute off a corner kick. Each team had a few decent scoring chances for the remainder of the first half but both teams played well defensively to keep most of the opponents' shots from outside the box.
Coming out of halftime, neither team was able to generate many scoring chances. Hayden Lepley and Farr each had a good look at goal from outside the box, but both of their shots missed the goal.
In the 71st minute, Jacksonville's Raegan Whitaker sent a long cross into the box from the left wing where Jacksonville's State's leading goal scorer Amelia Jacobs headed home her seventh goal of the season to make it 2-0 Gamecocks.
Jacksoville State was able to keep Mercer from getting one back to put the pressure back on the Gamecocks as the final score ended, 2-0 Jacksonville State.
