Bears in 11th after first round
WOLCOTT, Colo. - Ella Mäki-Tanila carded a first round of 1-under, 71 and is tied for 10th after Monday's first round at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic from Wolcott, Colorado at the Fazio Course from Red Sky Golf Club.
As a team, the Bears are in 11th place out of 20 teams at 7-over, 295. LSU leads the field at 14-under, 274. For the Tigers, their round was tied for the third lowest team round in school history. LSU's Francesca Fiorellini set the course record with a 9-under, 63 and leads the 100-player field by three strokes after the first round.
Mäki-Tanila's round consisted of three birdies with all of them coming on par 4's. She played the par 4's at 2-under par which was tied for the fifth best score in the field on them.
Katie Scheck and Riley Kim also had solid rounds for the Bears as Scheck finished with a 1-over, 73 and Kim carded a 2-over, 74 in her round. As a team, Mercer had 14 birdies on Monday which was tied for the seventh most among the 20 teams competing.
The second round on Tuesday for the Bears will begin at 10 a.m. MST / 12 p.m. EST with Bhoomi Jagtap being the first Bear to tee off from the first hole. The Bears will be playing with Sacramento State, Charlotte, and Northern Arizona.
