MACON – Segun Afolabi became the 16th player to sign a professional deal after playing under men's soccer head coach Brad Ruzzo after inking a contract with FC Strani, a club in the Czech Republic's Fourth Division.
FC Strani announced the signing of the former Bear on August 22 and just two days later Afolabi scored his first goal in the black and yellow.
The Atlanta, Georgia, native only suited up one season for the Bears. In 2024, Afolabi appeared in 17 matches, scored three goals and bagged four assists.
Before his stint with Mercer, Afolabi played four seasons with South Florida. In 47 matches with the Bulls, Afolabi bagged six goals with half of them being game winners.
In the orange and black, Afolabi scored a brace while also recording an assist on September 28 against Air Force to earn Southern Conference Player of the Week honors.
Before Alofabi began his collegiate career, he had a high school career that most could only dream of. The standout forward was the captain at Campbell High School and led his squad to two region championships. The Spartans also went to the Final Four in 2019.
Mercer's former No. 10 scored 44 goals in his high school career and earned several honors including:Â CHS Most Valuable Player in 2018 and 2019, 2019 All-Region First Team, 2019 East Region POY and was twice the top goal scorer in Region 3. At the club level, Afolabi played for NASA Tophat in the ECNL where he bagged over 20 goals.
