The 2025 season has been a tale of two stories for the Mercer Bears. At Betts Stadium, the Bears are 2-0-1 and have outscored opponents 6-1. On the road, Mercer is 0-2-0 with a pair of 2-0 losses to Memphis and Lipscomb.
Last Wednesday, it appeared that the contest against Georgia State would end in a scoreless draw. However, Liam Corr and Junior Casillas orchestrated a perfectly-timed counter attack that caught the Panthers' backline sleeping. Casillas fed the ball ahead to Corr, who rifled a shot on goal. A Georgia State defender deflected the ball softly off the goal line and Casillas followed up with a blast into the back of the net in the 88th minute, securing Mercer's first win over the Panthers since 2016.
Scouting the Bulls
The Bulls remain undefeated to begin the 2025 season with a 2-0-3 record. A day after USF's 3-2 win over Florida Gulf Coast, the Bulls were ranked the No. 22 team in the country in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. They also sit at No. 25 in TopDrawerSoccer's national ranking.
Fabio Bozesan leads USF with three goals and two assists through five matches. The graduate senior from Würzburg, Germany, received TopDrawerSoccer team of the week honors after scoring a late equalizer against No. 12 UNC Greensboro (United Soccer Coaches) and adding a goal and assist against FGCU.
A pair of juniors also headline the Bulls' roster. Midfielder Pedro Faife and defender Tyler Richardson earned The American All-Preseason Conference Team recognition as the Bulls were voted to finish third in the AAC.
