PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – Despite 17 birdies and two eagles, the Mercer men's golf team fell a spot in the standings and finished in eighth place of 13 teams in the Golfweek Fall Challenge at the True Blue Golf Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.

"We got off to another good start despite heavy wind and tough pins," said head coach Jason Payne. "In the end, the tougher holes got to us this week and we have things to work on so we can contend for the win."

After posting 73s in the opening two rounds, Nathan Trodd turned the page and finished the Bears' first tournament on a high note.

The senior made the turn sitting four-under on the front nine after a birdie on hole three and an eagle on hole four. Trodd knocked in his second eagle of the round on hole 12. A bogey and a double bogey on two of the final three holes brought Trodd to a three-under 69.

Hanson once again turned in one of the best scorecards for Mercer. The graduate senior has been the definition of consistency, avoiding blemishes and limiting damage. Hanson had three birdies on holes five, 10 and 14.

The Bears will travel to Miramar Beach, Florida for the Sandestin Collegiate Classic at the Raven Golf Club. The three-day event is hosted by Texas State and will take place from Monday, September 22 through Wednesday, September 24.
