Hanson, Swift Propel Bears To Fifth In Opening Round

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. – In the first round of the Sandestin Collegiate Classic, Cole Hanson and Phillips Swift shot a combined five-under to secure a spot in fifth place for the Mercer men's golf team.
"We were able to play the tough holes well today," said head coach Jason Payne. "We are only four shots back with 36 holes left to play so we have plenty of runway to post two more solid rounds to be in contention."
Hanson posted a season-low 68 to finish tied for fifth individually. The graduate senior had a season-high six birdies, including four on the back nine.Â
Swift, a freshman from Macon, Georgia, sits tied for 12th after shooting two-under. The Stratford Academy graduate has shot even or better in three of his first four collegiate rounds.
Nathan Trodd started his tournament three-over par before scoring birdies on three of his next six holes to finish even on the day.
