Mercer Opens Home Schedule On Friday Afternoon

MACON – The Mercer men's tennis team will open the home portion of its traditional spring season on Friday afternoon when the Bears suit up to take on in-state foe at the Copelan Tennis Complex. First serves are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and admission is free.

Fans unable to make the trip to Middle Georgia can still follow all of the action for free via a live scoring link provided by the MU athletics department.

The Bears (0-2), who saw last Sunday's regularly-scheduled matchup at North Florida postponed due to frigid temperatures, will face their first unranked foe of the season on Friday in Macon. Mercer opened the spring portion of its 2025-26 slate with a 7-0 setback at 22^nd-ranked Florida State on January 11, and dropped a tough 5-2 decision at 14^th-ranked UCF a week later.

The Eagles (0-0) had their regularly-scheduled season opener at Florida on January 17 postponed due to inclement weather and will, therefore, open their season on Friday afternoon in Macon. Georgia Southern returned just one student-athlete from last year's squad, senior Matthew Mitchell, that churned out an 18-7 record and a runner-up finish in both the Sun Belt Conference regular season standings and tournament.

Georgia Southern has taken 29 of the previous 34 matchups with the Bears in a series that dates back to the 1973-74 season. The Eagles will also ride a six-game series win streak into Friday's contest.
