MACON – Mercer used a 5-run third inning and a phenomenal complete game effort from newcomer Grace McKillop to outlast Army in their opening game of the day, but fell victim to an offensive outburst in an abbreviated loss to Western Kentucky in the final game of the MUSB Invitational I on Saturday evening at Sikes Field.

The Bears (7-2) finished their second of three home February tournaments with a 2-2 clip, including a win over Western Kentucky in Friday's action. All remaining games of the round-robin event have been canceled due to impending weather that is expected to make its way into the Macon area on Sunday morning.

KEY INNINGS (VS. ARMY)
BOT 2	Mercer sent 10 batters to the plate in a 4-hit, 5-run inning that all but put the game out of reach. Meredith Wayland got the scoring started with a 2-run blast to centerfield, Grace Jones hit a 2-run single up the middle four batters later and later stole home to complete the outburst.

KEY INNINGS (VS. WESTERN KENTUCKY)
TOP 1	It took five batters for Western Kentucky to register enough offense that would eventually secure the win. Kendle White and Jenna Blanton both singled to start the game, and the Hilltoppers used Annie White's five-pitch walk to load the bases. MU starter Grace Jones got Kennedy Stinson on a swinging strikeout five pitches later, but Maci Masters followed with a grand slam that gave the visitors the lead for good.

Mercer will close out its scheduled season-opening 11-game home stand on Wednesday when it bunkers down to battle in-state rival Georgia Southern (3-5) at Sikes Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. and admission is free.
