Bears Too Tall For Visiting Young Harris

MACON – Home-standing Mercer toughed out a victory on Court Nos. 2 and 3 to claim normally pivotal doubles point, and then cruised to a quartet of straight-sets triumphs in singles competition, to fuel a 7-0 win over Young Harris on Wednesday afternoon at the Copelan Tennis Complex.
The decision marked the second-straight win for the Bears (2-5) who are scheduled to close out their season-longest three-match home stand on February 25 against Georgia State. The setback was counted as an exhibition loss for the Mountain Lions (1-2).
Hod'Abalo Isak Padio and Nemanja Stefanovic cruised to a 6-0 triumph in the featured doubles matchup, but the Mountain Lions forced MU to tough out the remainder of doubles competition. Alex Aldaz and Cameron Douthit got the better end of a 7-5 contest with Samuel Guzon and Mason Harmon on Court No. 2, while Amen Prince Gandonou/Shingo Masuda, twice, fought off an upset effort from YHC's Guillem Busquets Brau/Parker Rowan before upending the duo with a 7-3 tiebreaker.
Mercer registered four singles victories in straight sets to provide more than enough ammunition for the team win, but Young Harris made the Bears work, once again, to complete the afternoon sweep. Guzon battled back to knot up his No. 2 singles matchup with Padio before the MU senior prevailed with a 6-1 win in the third set. Masuda fought off Harmon at No. 4 singles with a 6-2 triumph in the deciding third set.
The Bears will be back in action again on February 25 when they suit up to battle in-state rival Georgia State (3-4) at the Copelan Tennis Complex. Admission to all 2026 Mercer tennis home matches is free.
