MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's lacrosse team fell to the Black Knights of #11 Army 16-7 on Monday morning at Five Star Stadium, facing their second ranked opponent in a row.

Mercer's offense was led by sophomore attackman Will Zylstra who posted two goals on the morning. The rest of the goals were score by Dillon Bush, Ganon Cope, Ben Jose, Michael Frederick and Nick Church, while Frederick and Kade McNeil added an assist, respectively. Christopher Cappelmann had a standout day at the faceoff X going 18-25. On the defensive side of the ball, Brady Corkill posted a career-high four caused turnovers and added a ground ball. Senior defenseman Quinn Kelley picked up two ground balls and Davis Peek caused two turnovers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Black Knights struck first at the 12:52 mark in the first quarter but was shortly followed up by Cope's first goal of the season at the 12:24 mark. Both sides were in a stand off until Bush found the back of the net with 4:56 on the clock to give the Bears their sole lead of the game. Army finished out the quarter with two more goals.
Army held the Bears scoreless in the second quarter after five straight goals until Jose found his lone goal of the day at the 0:25 mark to round out the scoring before halftime.
The Orange & Black were able to squeeze a goal past the pipes in the third quarter when Zylstra found the back of the net off of an assist from Frederick at the 6:44 mark.
The Bears came to life in the final quarter of play scoring three goals, including the final two of the game, but the damage had been done from the #11 team in the country, pushing Army towards a 5-0 start.

Corkill recorded a career-high four caused turnovers.
Zylstra led the Bears with two goals on the day.
Cappelmann went 18-25 at the faceoff X.

Army remains undefeated on the season.
Mercer moves to 3-2 on the year.
