TROY, Ala. – Home-standing Troy yielded just four games on the way to clinching the doubles point, and then tacked up five singles wins in straight sets, on the way to a 7-0 win over visiting Mercer on Thursday afternoon at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
Â
It was the sixth loss in the last seven outings for the Bears (4-11) who will close out the non-conference portion of their 2026 schedule on March 27 with an 11 a.m. home matchup against UAB at the Copelan Tennis Complex. The Trojans (13-4) have now won six-straight matches, and used Thursday's decision to improve to 9-0 at home this season.
Â
Yeray Andres Pastor and Ryusei Miyazato surrendered just two games on Court No. 3, while Stephan Tavares Noale and Luciano Alcocer finished off a similar 6-2 win on Court No. 2, to clinch the doubles point for Troy and harness the momentum heading into singles action.
Â
The Trojans went to work quickly in singles play, posting straight sets wins on Court Nos. 2-6, but Hod'Abalo Isak Padio went the distance with Ausias Martin Melo in the featured singles contest. The Mercer senior battled back from a tough tiebreak loss in the opening set with a 6-4 win in the second set. However, Padio could not complete the comeback, falling 10-3 in the superset tiebreaker.
