
Bears Battle UAB At Home On Friday Morning

MACON – The Mercer men's tennis team will close out the non-conference portion of its 2026 regular season schedule on Friday morning when the Bears suit up to take on American Conference foe UAB in an 11 a.m. tilt at the Copelan Tennis Complex. Admission is free.

The Bears (4-11) have been on the wrong end of decisions in their last four outings, including a tough 5-2 loss to Southern Conference foe Furman on March 17 in Macon. The Blazers (7-9) have split their last four contests, including a 4-2 road victory over Alabama State on Tuesday.

Senior Nemanja Stefanovic has carried the hot hand for Mercer as of late, winning seven of his last eight singles matchups, including six in straight sets, while sophomore Shingo Masuda has won seven matches across the traditional spring campaign for the Orange & Black, including a 2-1 clip at No. 3 singles. Masuda has also teamed up with senior Amen Prince Gandonou to register a seven victories in doubles action during the dual season, including a 5-2 mark on Court No. 2.

The Blazers are paced on the singles courts by junior Ondrej Valek who has compiled a 9-5 record so far this spring (6-3 at No. 1 singles), as well as sophomore Conor Flynn who has eight singles victories to his credit, including a 5-4 mark on Court No. 3. The Blazers have found a bulk of their doubles success during the dual season on Court No. 1 where Valek and Juan Pablo Vadez have picked up six wins.

UAB is a perfect 3-0 against the Orange & Black in a series that dates back to the 2007-08 campaign. Friday's matchup will mark the first between the two sides since a 6-1 home win by the Blazers on Feb. 24, 2013.
